I tend to be a perfectionist. I expect a lot from myself and I expect that whatever I do should be perfect. Unfortunately, I am a person as well and so that means I am rarely if ever perfect. I also have a tendency to put things off because I can't do them perfectly and this blog has been one of those things (obviously). Today I realized that I don't always have to have perfect things to share that are deep or even thought out for days. I do not have to have a full length devotional to share, I can share what is on my heart today. So today I will share what is on my heart.

Lately I have been thinking about how I wish sometimes people who do and say crazy things wouldn't call themselves Christians, because it pushes so many people further away from the gospel. This morning I had the thought- What if Christians started loving and doing good so much that people who aren't Christians knew us by our love to the point that when someone does something un-christlike in the name of Christianity it was obvious that it isn't what being a Christ follower is all about? What if we began to love the way Jesus loved and lived the way Jesus did? What if we went around doing good, even when we are tired, mistreated or misunderstood?

  I love to be surrounded by lovely things. I think as women we tend to want to surround ourselves with things that we see as lovely. I had a friend who could see the lovely in everything. She would write and tell me how lovely the sky was that morning. She would witness the birth of a baby animal and see it as lovely. We all find things that we see as lovely, and they may not all be the same things. If you haven’t guessed by now, our word that we are focusing on this week is lovely. In the Aramaic translation, it says precious. So we are to be thinking thoughts that are lovely and precious. What is Truth?

Last week I talked about how God keeps in perfect peace those whose thoughts are fixed on Him. Over the next several weeks I want to look at ways that we keep our minds fixed on God. Philippians 4:8 says “And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.” (NLT)  This week we are going to focus on the word true. When you look up the Greek for this word it is “an actual occurrence. Of God, or loving the truth and speaking the truth.” First I want to focus on the thought that truth is an ACTUAL occurrence. How often do we fix our thoughts on things that haven’t happened and might not happen? We play the what-if game. What if I start a new job and I hate it? Worthy

          Not too long ago, I was driving down the road and began praying. This particular prayer stands out to me because as I was praying I caught myself saying, “God help me to be worthy of your love.” Suddenly, as fast as I said that, I had this realization that I was wrong. I realized that what I was really asking, was for God to help me make my behavior perfect enough that He could accept me and love me more.             You see- I have always been the “good girl”. I hate- I mean really hate being in trouble or having anyone think badly of me. If there was a rule, I wanted to stay five feet this side of the line to make sure I didn’t accidentally almost think about looking at the line and risk the wrath of God or someone in authority.
